Manor Resort Golf Course Report

The Manor Resort Golf Course

My oldest son made the All Star team this summer, so instead of playing lots of golf, I spent much of the summer watching baseball. Not a bad trade off – especially if you consider the occasional round I was able to sneak in with the other team Dads.

We played some great courses, but one really stuck out and that was the Manor Resort at Poplar Hill just a mile or so south of Farmville, VA. It’s a fairly new course, but you’d never know based on the wonderful condition of the course. It was ranked as one of the “Best New Golf Courses of 2007” by Golf Digest and the place has only gotten better as the course has matured.

Set in wooded hills, the course offers four sets of tees to challenge golfers of all levels and offers some of the most scenic golf I’ve ever played. It has water, forced carries, just enough sand, and offers the occasional birdie hole just to keep you in the game.

And best of all, the price to play was a steal compared to the rates in Northern Virginia. If you find yourself down that way, it’s well worth the time.

One other note – as I played I kept thinking that I’d love to see the course in the fall. The rolling fairways were lined with tall hardwood trees and you just knew it would be beautiful when the leaves changed. Perhaps it’s time for a road trip?
