Congratulations to Laurel Hill Golf Club for making the 2013 List of Golfweek’s Best Municipal Courses.
Each year Golfweek ranks the top munis in the US. The only local course to make the list this year is Laurel Hill in Lorton, Virginia.
Laurel Hill ranks #21 this season. Joining courses such as Bethpage in New York and Torrey Pines in California is quite an accomplishment for Laurel Hill which opened on the grounds of the old Lorton prison in 2005.
This July the best amateur public links golfers in the nation will compete in the 2013 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship at Laurel Hill and have their chance to test themselves on one of the best municipal golf courses in the United States.
Designer Bill Love, whose credits include the Iron Forge Course at Penn National and Hunting Hawk in Glenn Allen, Virginia, can be proud of the unique golf course he designed on the land that formerly housed the D.C. Department of Corrections facility at Lorton.
