The Ritz Carlton Golf Club at Creighton Farms

Golfers frequently ask me to name the best course in the area.  I typically respond with Congressional or Robert Trent Jones.  A new entry has to be added to my response… The Ritz Carlton Golf Club at Creighton Farms.  Like the other two courses, unless you have a member friend you are not likely to play it.  Currently only 55 members are signed up at Creighton Farms, though 300 are eventually expected.  With the course averaging only twenty-some rounds of play per day, you can imagine the conditioning of the course.

First, a bit about this new facility.  The Ritz Carlton is known worldwide for 5-star service, and is now bringing that commitment to excellence to Club Management.  The member community at Creighton Farms will offer residents total concierge living.  Member services extend beyond the traditional club amenities to such lifestyle and personal services as child care, event planning, auto care, travel reservations, and more.  Check out the website at www.creightonfarms.com for the story.

The Golf Club at Creighton FarmsThe course is a typical Nicklaus  design where each hole is beautifully laid out in front of the golfer.  No Dye-esque blind tee shots or unfair tricks are found here, just a wonderful golf test.  This is a course where I actually choked up on each club in order to make less of a divot—that well conditioned!  The 14th hole epitomizes the Nicklaus design perhaps best of any.  From the tee you can see the entire uphill, short par four.  Once near the green, the view of the traps and undulating green demonstrate why this is no gimme par.  There are four sets of tees ranging from 7410 to 5008 yards.  There is no evidence that this is a “new” course, unlike many nice courses that need time to settle.  This course appears to have miraculously been a part of the landscape for years.

Two very large houses (mansions actually) are under construction in the community.  They portend the class and elegance that will become this property in the next decade.  Certainly would be nice to buy a lot, build, and join this marvelous club.  For now most of us can only slow down as we drive on route 15 and dream, or find a friend who is a member.
